When someone has Machiavellianism, psychopath, and narcissist, this is called a Dark Triad. These three personality disorders have things in common. When you have a relationship with someone that has these traits, it can be challenging to deal with them. Dealing with just one of these personality disorders can be trying but when there are three in one, this can be even harder.
What Makes Someone a Dark Triad?
There is a term called the “Dirty Dozen” that was coined by Peter Jonason and Gregory Webster in 2010 and this gives 12 traits of someone with a Dark Triad including:
- They manipulate other people to get their way.
- They have no remorse.
- They want to be admired.
- They aren’t concerned by their morality.
- They lie to get their way.
- They are insensitive.
- They flatter others to get them to do what they want.
- They look to have high status.
- Cynical.
- Put others down for their own gain.
- Want special favors.
- Want everyone to pay attention to them.
Machiavellian Personality Disorder
This is a personality disorder that is named after Niccolo Machiavelli. This is someone that is conniving and they calculate and deceive others to get their way. They will do good things and show good characteristics but when they get ignored, they will do what it takes to get attention.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
This is a personality disorder that means that someone thinks they are superior to others. They will have no empathy for others, and they will do what it takes to get validation from others. They care only about their own self-worth, and they will appear to be kind and caring but behind doors they are quite the opposite.
Psychopathic Personality Disorder
It is hard to spot this personality disorder, but these are people that don’t regard others and they get angry fast. They have little empathy, and they push things to extreme. They also have extreme expressions.
Dark Triad
When someone has all three of these personality disorders it means that they will be competitive and they will be people that are able to trick people into thinking they are great, but the truth is, they won’t be able to keep up this façade for long.
Attracted to a Dark Triad?
People can easily become attracted to a Dark Triad personality disorder. This is because they are magnetic in their personality, and they are people that will charm you and will pay you a lot of attention until they get you. Then they will start to do things that hurt you.
Getting Past a Dark Triad Relationship
Dark Triad’s are relationships that won’t last very long. Most of the time after they get used to the sex, they will start seeing the characteristics of this person and they will see that they can be violent and mistreat them. They will see that they are manipulative and will abandon you if you go against them at all.
People that have been in these kinds of relationships will often end them, but they will have a harder time dating other people. The ex will often flaunt their new relationship, or their success and they will act like they are better than who you are.
The best thing that you can do is to not respond to their actions, and you can continue to live your best life. If you need to talk to a counselor, do that and be able to live your best life.
